As a 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact Signatory, Greenko is working to develop and scale technologies, support energy policies, improve procurement practices, and provide solutions to transform India’s energy system and enable rapid, cost-effective Carbon Free Energy.
In 2021, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) worked with a coalition of energy buyers, energy suppliers, governments, system operators, solutions providers, investors and other organizations to develop a commitment to 24/7 CFE, announced as an Energy Compact commitment to the United Nations. By joining the 24/7 CFE Energy Compact, companies can share innovative tools and solutions with other members in support of their carbon-free energy journey.
Stanford University’s 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) Initiative helps institutions to decarbonize their operations by electrifying their assets and coordinating their operation to reduce emissions, electric infrastructure impacts, power and operational costs while increasing resilience during extreme events.
GoNetZero is contributing to the 24/7 CFE Compact and movement by being a scalable technological solution allowing for immutable and verified renewable energy at source and enabling 24/7 sub hourly matching.
Blok-Z, one of the early signatories of the 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact is a software start-up based in Germany. Blok-Z develops a white-label blockchain platform for energy retailers to offer their customers 24/7 renewable energy tracking and matching services. With Blok-Z, customers of energy retailers can select renewable sources based on location and type, trace the origin of their energy in real time, and have access to automated sustainability tools.
OVO and Brook Green Supply are amongst the 15 energy suppliers joining Granular Energy’s 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy matching platform. Granular’s platform enables them to allocate and optimize hourly certificates so end-consumption can be matched with clean energy around the clock. The project will introduce a market for hourly energy certificates, in partnership with power system operators Elexon, National Grid and Energy Systems Catapult. It will also see the world’s first exchange platform for those certificates launched in partnership with the power market operator NordPool.
Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), an international organization that works in partnership with the United Nations and leaders in government, the private sector, financial institutions, civil society and philanthropies to drive faster action towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), launched the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact during the High-Level Dialogue on Energy in September 2021 with an initial list of founding signatories committed to working toward a carbon-free future for all.
FlexiDAO is a cleantech startup based in Amsterdam and Barcelona. FlexiDAO is one of the early signatories to the 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact and helps create software for companies to reach net zero emissions by tracing where their electricity comes from and its true CO2 content.
ClearTrace, a decarbonization platform that provides the actionable data companies need to meet their renewable energy goals, joined the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact with the goal to empower the market with an hourly carbon accounting software platform that provides immutable proof of carbon reductions. By enabling real-time Carbon-Free Energy matching to consumption and hourly carbon accounting, ClearTrace hopes to unlock the pathway to grid decarbonization.
EDP is a Portuguese company that operates in 28 markets around the world and is the fourth-largest wind energy producer in the world. EDP are at the forefront of the development of new technologies to accelerate the decarbonization of electricity systems and promote the globalization of access to clean energy.
Alongside signing the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact, Microsoft submitted its own individual Energy Compact reiterating the actions it will take to have 100 percent of its electricity consumption, 100 percent of the time, matched by zero carbon sources by 2030, and to procure renewable energy to meet 100 percent of its electricity consumption by 2025.
Alongside signing the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact, EnergyTag has recently launched an initiative to define and build a market for Granular Certificates that enable consumers to choose the source of their electricity consumption in each hour of the day. The EnergyTag Initiative is an independent, non-profit, industry-led initiative that will help clean energy buyers access, track, and certify 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy.
Google became operationally carbon neutral in 2007 and, in 2017, the first company of its size to match 100% of its global, annual electricity consumption with renewable energy. Google is now on a path to decarbonize its electricity supply completely to operate on 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy, everywhere, by 2030 and, alongside SEforALL, launched the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact in 2021.
